Ordinarily, summary installments are loathed by fans as an unnecessary diversion, or sometimes tolerated as a requirement for shows in the era of regular broadcasts. However, this wasn't true, but Avatar: The Last Airbender showed it with "The Ember Island Players," a cherished episode in its last season now being getting a special Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair collection.

Information regarding the special release

The full Secret Lair superdrop for the forthcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender set was revealed on November 4. This includes five distinct sets, and although a set named "My Cabbages!" is clearly humorous tribute to the series' most famous minor character, the additional releases seem somewhat lacking creativity, with one notable exception: "The Ember Island Players."

Inspired by episode 17 from season 3 of the beloved series, this collector's drop features the following cards:

The reason this episode is special

Viewers of Avatar clearly recall this particular episode, which functioned as a summary of Aang and his friends' quest before the series' finale. Different from other recap episodes, or retrospective segments, "The Ember Island Players" was not driven from financial limitations or creative challenges. The creators genuinely intended to give fans an opportunity to reflect on the show's narrative, but they decided to execute it with flair.

Throughout the segment, the main characters watches a play inspired by their adventures on a stage set on Ember Island, titled The Boy in the Iceberg. The entire performance is wildly exaggerated, over-the-top, and utterly comical. It excels since it plays with the characters' perception about themselves, contrasting them compared to how society (and particularly the Fire Nation) perceives them. It possesses the perfect balance of self-awareness, and it becomes arguably the top rendition of the series available to date.

Appeal and availability

In terms of value, this is a great Secret Lair because of one major element: Braid of Fire. This card is valued between $20 and $40 on online marketplaces as of now, and at $29.99 you can snag the full set, or $39.99 for the premium foil treatment.

Magic: The Gathering's Avatar: The Last Airbender set will be available for advance previews beginning November 14 and launches globally come November 21.
