Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the session, turning around through the fast downhill corner leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car in third, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
